He had too much energy – Petr Cech backs Arsenal for selling Martinez

Former Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech has backed the club’s decision to sell Emiliano Martinez.

According to Cech, Martinez had too much energy and needed to develop to the next level.

Martinez has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in the world since leaving Arsenal to join Asron Villa.

The Argentina international spent a decade at the Gunners after joining the their team in 2010.

The 32-year-old only made 38 first-team appearances for Arsenal and was sent out on six different loan spells before the Premier League North London club eventually sold him in 2020.

“You could always see his ability, but he had too much energy at Arsenal,” Cech, a former Chelsea goalkeeper, told Amazon Prime.

“It wasn’t until he found a way to channel it into one direction that he really developed and went to the next level.”

Martinez has helped Aston Villa to the Champions League Round of 16 stage.

He also won the World Cup and the Copa America with the Argentina national team.
