Ballon d’Or: Joe Cole names player to win award

Former Chelsea player, Joe Cole has backed Atletico Madrid striker, Julian Alvarez to win the Ballon d’Or in the future.

Cole spoke after Alvarez scored a goal in Atletico Madrid’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

“He is another lad we know very well from the Premier League,” Cole said on TNT Sports after the match.

“You won’t see a better goal in the Champions League. It’s beautiful, it is sensational.

“This kid has won it all and done it all and he is still only 25. I think we see the best of him over the next five years. I think he is a Ballon d’Or winner in the future.”

Alvarez left Man City to join Atletico Madrid last summer after winning the Premier League title.

The Argentina international has scored 22 goals for Atletico this season.
