The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has called for a stronger and more unified approach to tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
Speaking at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) in Jaji, Kaduna State, on Tuesday, Musa addressed students of Senior Course 47 and Junior Course 99, emphasizing that overcoming insecurity in Nigeria and Africa requires collective effort, innovation, and regional collaboration.
Delivering a lecture titled ‘Nigeria’s Security and Defence: My Leadership Concept for the Armed Forces of Nigeria’, Musa stressed that security threats do not recognize borders, and Nigeria must work closely with its neighboring countries to maintain peace and stability.
“Nigeria has a key role in promoting unity across Africa and that only through cooperation can real progress be achieved,” he said.
Musa outlined his leadership approach for the Armed Forces, which prioritizes a people-focused strategy, improving troops’ welfare, and strengthening joint military operations.
He urged officers to lead with integrity, discipline, and courage while embracing innovation and technology to address evolving security threats.
He further emphasized that no single military service or security agency can tackle Nigeria’s security issues alone, adding that partnerships with regional and international allies remain crucial in achieving lasting peace.
The Commandant of AFCSC, AVM Hassan Alhaji, highlighted the resilience of Nigeria despite its long history of security challenges, including the civil war from 1967 to 1970.
He commended the CDS for his leadership, strategic vision, and diplomatic efforts, which he said had contributed to improvements in national security.
He also noted that the CDS has expanded Nigeria’s military training programs to include more international students, revealing that officers from Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar would soon join the programme.
The lecture ended with a call to action, urging military personnel to play an active role in strengthening national security.
The Commandant acknowledged the efforts of the CDS and other service chiefs, stating that they have provided the leadership and resources necessary for success in Nigeria’s ongoing fight against insecurity.
