Europa League: Amorim explains why Man Utd failed to beat Sociedad

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has claimed that the penalty awarded to Real Sociedad changed the momentum of their Europa League tie.

Joshua Zirkzee gave the Red Devils the lead in the second half of the game in Spain.

But the hosts were levelled after there was a VAR check for Bruno Fernandes’ handball. Mikel Oyarzabal stepped up to send Andre Onana the wrong way.

Amorim, speaking after the game, admitted his players became tired as the game went on.

He said: “Until the penalty, we had control of the game and then the penalty changed the momentum. In the last 30 minutes, we were really, really tired and you could feel it in the game.

“So we take it to Old Trafford and it will be a different game. The pressure is going to be on us in that stadium and we have to be ready.

“The key will be surviving physically for Sunday (against Arsenal) and to be ready and fresh for Thursday.”
