Taraba police nab two over alleged murder of officer, civilian in Wukari

Taraba State Police operatives have arrested two suspected members of an armed gang allegedly involved in the murder of a police officer and a civilian in Wukari.

The arrest was made during a joint operation between police personnel and local hunters on March 6, 2025, between 8:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.

The operation was launched based on credible intelligence and was led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Wukari.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, in a post on X on Saturday, revealed that the tactical team ambushed the suspects along a bush route behind Federal University Wukari, leading to their capture.

The suspects were identified as Godwin Ajaver (28) from Abako in Katsina-Ala LGA, Benue State, and Austin Emmanuel (25) from Jootar in Ukum LGA, Benue State.

According to police sources, Ajaver confessed to being a member of the gang responsible for the killing of Police Corporal Ahmadu Yusuf (F/No. 517607) and a civilian, Gaddafi Saidu, on February 25, 2025. However, he denied being present on the day of the attack.

The second suspect, Emmanuel, was allegedly recruited by Ajaver and was arrested while attempting to join the gang.

Though the suspects were unarmed at the time of their arrest, police say Ajaver has been providing valuable intelligence on the gang’s operations.
