Maresca reacts to Palmer’s penalty miss for Chelsea against Leicester City

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reacted to midfielder Cole Palmer’s penalty miss against Leicester City in the Premier League.

Palmer saw his perfect penalty record come to an end against Leicester on Sunday.

The England international had the chance to end his goal drought in the first half against the Foxes.

He was presented with a great opportunity from 12 yards after Jadon Sancho was fouled by Viktor Kristiansen.

However, Palmer, who had gone eight games without a goal before the match at Stamford Bridge, saw his penalty strike the left-hand post, with Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen reacting quickly to save the effort.

Speaking about Palmer’s penalty miss in his post-match interview, Maresca said: “Cole didn’t feel well during the night. People need to understand the effort he made to be there. He is a top player. Everything is normal now.”

Palmer had previously scored all 12 of his penalties, often opting for precision over power.
