Bauchi govt cancels food vendors’ contract over quality concerns

The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has revoked the contracts of food vendors supplying provisions to all boarding schools in the state due to the poor quality of food served to pupils.

The Commissioner of Education, Lawal Mohammed Rimin Zayam, made the disclosure on Monday after holding a meeting with the affected vendors at the ministry’s headquarters.

He said the move aims to improve food quality and enhance student nutrition.

“We acknowledge the contributions of our vendors over the years, but a comprehensive review and restructuring of the food supply system are necessary to uphold better standards,” he said.

Lawal stressed that the termination of contracts is part of efforts to enhance transparency, accountability, and the overall quality of meals provided to students.

“Our top priority is the health and well-being of our students,” he stated.

“This decision aligns with Governor Bala Mohammed’s vision of ensuring nutritious and balanced meals for all boarding school students. We encourage new applications from vendors who can meet our stringent quality requirements,” he added.

Reiterating the ministry’s commitment to both quality education and student welfare, the commissioner said the reforms are essential to achieving those objectives.

He also expressed appreciation to Governor Bala Mohammed for his unwavering support of the ministry’s initiatives.
