UCL: He’s lazy, leaves massive gap for Dembele – Wayne Rooney slams Liverpool defender

Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has labelled Liverpool captain, Virgil van Dijk as ‘lazy’ after naming the defender at fault for Paris Saint-Germain’s goal in the Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie on Tuesday night.

Rooney insisted that Van Dijk left a massive gap for Dembele, who scored the game’s only goal of the match during 120 minutes.

Dembele was able to smuggle the ball over the line despite having Dominik Szoboszlai and Ibrahima Konate for company with Alisson Becker also rushing out from goal.

“This goal from Liverpool’s point of view is wrong in so many different ways,” Rooney told Amazon Prime.

“They are trying to press the ball and van Dijk gets lazy. If you keep your eyes on van Dijk here, he is walking. He leaves a massive gap for Dembele.

“All he has to do is come across to Dembele because there is no other pass for Paris to get out but he doesn’t.

“Now Dembele has got a lot of space. And Konate again, he doesn’t switch on, Dembele makes a good run and it’s a tap in.”

PSG defeated Liverpool on penalties after the game ended 1-1 on aggregate at Anfield.

The Premier League leaders had won 1-0 in the first leg last week in Paris.
