UCL: Ancelotti reacts to Vinicius’ penalty miss, why he substituted Brazilian against Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid manager, Carlo Ancelotti has reacted to forward, Vinicius’ penalty miss against Atletico Madrid during both teams’ UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg tie on Wednesday.

Ancelotti also explained why he substituted Vinicius during the encounter in extra-time.

Vinicius missed a penalty won by teammate Kylian Mbappe during the encounter in the second half at Riyadh Air Metropolitano.

Ancelotti’s side eventually won Atletico 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 draw aggregate.

Speaking at his post-match interview, Ancelotti said: “It was already decided Vini Jr. would take it and unfortunately he missed.

“He wasn’t going to take one in the shootout but he asked me to come off because he was very tired.”

Real Madrid will now face Arsenal in the quarter-final stage in April.

The Los Blancos will face Villarreal in their next game in the LaLiga on Saturday.
