Kebbi Governor pledges swift resettlement for victims of Lakurawa attack

Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has assured victims of the recent Lakurawa attacks in Arewa Local Government Area that his administration will take swift action to resettle them in their communities.

Idris made this pledge on Wednesday during a condolence visit to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Kangiwa, where he expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property. The camp currently shelters residents displaced from Birnin Debe, Dan Marke, and Tambo—villages targeted by armed assailants last Saturday in an attack that left 11 people dead and one settlement razed.

A statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, highlighted that Idris’ visit aimed to console victims and assess the situation firsthand to inform the government’s response.

The governor commended security agencies for their efforts in containing the crisis but raised concerns over the frequent incursions from neighboring Sokoto State and Niger Republic.

“To support the displaced persons, I announced the immediate provision of 100 additional bags each of rice and millet, along with a cow to be slaughtered for sustenance every four to five days,” Idris stated.

He also lauded the Arewa Local Government Chairman for swiftly setting up the IDP camp as directed.
