Simon doubtful for Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifiers

Nantes winger Moses Simon is a doubt for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe due to injury.

Simon, who is currently battling an injury, has missed training for three days this week.

The 29-year-old is also doubtful for Nantes’ Ligue 1 clash with Lille this weekend.

Nantes manager Antoine Kombouaré provided a fitness update on the pacy winger ahead of the home match against Lille.

“He (Simon) hasn’t trained all week. He stayed in the gym on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, but he completed the session today,” Kombouaré was quoted as saying by Ouest-France.

“His ankle is still hurting. There’s obviously some concern. We’re managing it, but for him, it’s complicated.”

Simon was named in Nigeria’s 23-man squad for the matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe this week.

The former Levante player could be replaced in the squad if his fitness is not confirmed by the weekend.

Head coach Eric Chelle has already replaced the injured Nathan Tella with Jordan Torunarigha.
