Put safely measures in place to prevent incessant inferno – Olubadan tells market leaders

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, has advised market leaders to implement necessary safety measures and protocols.

The monarch emphasised that this is essential to prevent the frequent outbreaks of fire in markets across the state.

About 500 shops and stalls were destroyed in a fire that broke out at Aleshinloye Market in Ibadan on Tuesday and Wednesday.

While speaking, the Olubadan urged traders to prioritise safety measures to prevent future incidents.

He made these remarks in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Chief Solomon Olugbemiga Ayoade.

The statement was made available to Media Talk Africa on Friday.

The traditional ruler called on stakeholders managing markets in the state to integrate safety protocols into their operations.

Expressing his concerns, the Olubadan said: β€œI am not happy with the spate of fire disasters in markets and other places in Ibadan and Oyo State. It is too frequent for comfort. My call is for market managers to develop and implement stringent safety protocols and measures to curb the recurring fire outbreaks and other disasters.

β€œLives and property are precious. It is imperative that we protect and preserve both for sustainable living and economic development. All stakeholders must work together to prevent and mitigate this life- and economy-threatening trend.”
