A key witness, identified as “ABC,” has testified before the Federal High Court in Abuja, detailing how notorious bandit kingpin Kachalla Halilu acquired a military gun truck from Niger Republic to aid terrorist operations in Nigeria.
During the trial of four suspects linked to fugitive bandit leader, Bello Turji, the witness recounted how Halilu purchased the truck for approximately N28.5 million, with payments made in cash and electronic transfers.
The four accused—Musa Kamarawa, Abubakar Hashimu (a.k.a. Doctor), Samuel Chinedu, and Lucky Chukwuma—face 11 terrorism-related charges filed by the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF).
Justice Emeka Nwite denied them bail and ordered a speedy trial.
Prosecutors allege that between 2018 and 2022, the defendants supplied terrorist groups with illicit drugs, military uniforms, food, and building materials. The witness narrated his journey with Kamarawa to Cotonou for currency exchange and vehicle purchases, culminating in the procurement of the gun truck in Gaya, Niger Republic.
Upon delivery to Halilu’s camp in Sububu Forest, the bandits fired celebratory gunshots and took photographs with the vehicle.
After learning of Kamarawa’s arrest, the witness voluntarily surrendered to the police.
The court has adjourned the trial to May 23 and 26 for cross-examination.
