FA Cup final: Salah sets ‘unwanted’ record after Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle

Liverpool ace, Mohamed Salah, on Sunday achieved an unwanted record following his side’s FA Cup final defeat to Newcastle United.

The Egyptian international was unable to help the Premier League leaders as Newcastle won 2-1 at Wembley.

Salah has scored 32 goals and provided 22 assists in all competitions for Liverpool so far this season.

But his blistering form this season was nowhere to be seen as goals from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak gave Newcastle the victory in the Carabao Cup final.

Federico Chiesa did score a goal for Liverpool in injury-time against Eddie Howe’s side.

However, with just 23 touches of the ball, Salah was surprisingly subdued at Wembley as he failed to register any real threat against Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope.

According to Opta, it was the first time in Salah’s Liverpool career that he neither attempted a shot nor created a chance when he has played the entire 90 minutes of a match for the club.

Liverpool will now shift their attention to winning the Premier League title as they are 12 points ahead of second position Arsenal.

Arne Slot’s side are already out of the UEFA Champions League after losing to Paris Saint-Germain in the Round of 16 stage.
