Rivers crisis: You cannot have peace without Wike, Fubara – Shehu Sani calls for political solution

Former federal lawmaker Shehu Sani has called for a political solution to resolve the Rivers crisis.

This follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on Tuesday.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, Sani emphasized the need for a political resolution to the crisis.

He stressed the pivotal roles of both former Governor Nyesom Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara in restoring stability.

“Political conflicts need political solutions, and whatever happens to Rivers State, you cannot remove the key instrumental factor of Wike. You cannot have peace without Wike and without Fubara. So both of them are needed within this window of six months to appease the situation if the issue is before the Federal Executive Council,” Sani stated.

He urged President Tinubu to leverage his leadership to restore peace in the state, regardless of whether Wike remains a central figure in the resolution. “Whether Wike is there or not, the most important thing is that we all want peace in Rivers State,” he added.

The state of emergency marks a significant turn in Rivers State’s political landscape, raising concerns over governance and stability in the coming months.
