‘It’s fully operational’ — NNPC speaks after fire outbreak at Port Harcourt Refinery

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL, has stated that the Port Harcourt refinery, located in Rivers State, remains fully operational despite a fire outbreak on Wednesday.

The spokesperson for NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, made this known in a statement on Wednesday.

His comment follows a Media Talk Africa report that a fire broke out in a section of the Port Harcourt refinery but has since been extinguished.

Reacting in a statement, the state-owned oil company confirmed the incident but emphasised that no damage was done to the refinery, which remains fully operational.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited wishes to clarify that despite a minor incident at a section of the Port Harcourt Refining Company earlier today, the plant remains operational and continues to produce on-spec refined petroleum products.

“NNPC Ltd assures the public that there is no cause for concern, as all sections of the recently rehabilitated plant are in full operation,” the statement read.
