Miedema scores twice as Man City beat Chelsea in Champions League quarter-final

Vivianne Miedema came off the bench to grab a brace as Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

Miedema’s exclusion raised some eyebrows, especially with Shaw out injured.

But Nick Cushing introduced her after the break to devastating effect.

Miedema scored the first goal in the 60th minute and the second in the 88th minute.

The result brings an end to Sonia Bompastor’s 28-game unbeaten record in charge of the Blues.

Chelsea will host Manchester City in the second leg of the Women’s Champions League quarter-final on March 27.

The game will be held at Stamford Bridge, four days after the two sides meet in the WSL at the Etihad Stadium.
