Conor McGregor announces he’s running for President of Ireland

Irish professional mixed martial artist Conor McGregor confirmed on Thursday that he will run for president.

McGregor announced his bid in an Instagram post while wearing the “Make Ireland Great Again” hat he was gifted during his White House visit.

In the post, the 36-year-old shared an unusual picture of himself standing in front of a private jet, wearing a vest and holding one of his four children.

This comes three days after former US President Donald Trump called McGregor his “favourite Irishman” during an Oval Office visit.

He wrote: “The next presidential election must take place by 11 Nov 2025. Who else will stand up to the Government and oppose this bill? Any other presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will! This is the future of Ireland with me as President.”

The 2025 Irish presidential election is expected to take place by 11 November.
