Supreme court delivers final verdict on PDP leadership battle

The Supreme Court on Friday, reaffirmed SKE Udeh-Okoye as the substantive National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Reports earlier indicated that the apex court nullified the judgement of the Federal High Court, which sacked Samuel Anyanwu.

However, a statement issued by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Udeh-Okoye’s appointment was upheld by the Supreme Court.

According to PDP, the Supreme Court decision shows that the matter falls exclusively within the party’s internal mechanisms, placing them beyond the jurisdiction of the courts.

Debo said the PDP National Working Committee, NWC, welcomed the ruling, describing it as a victory for democracy and party supremacy.

On October 20, 2023, the South East Zonal Executive Committee unanimously approved Udeh-Okoye’s nomination.

This decision was subsequently ratified by the NWC at its 577th meeting on November 7, 2023, and endorsed by key PDP organs, including the Board of Trustees, the PDP Governors’ Forum, and the South East Zonal Caucus.

The party commended the judiciary for recognizing and respecting its principle, PDP emphasized that the decision strengthens democracy and party discipline.

The NWC called on all PDP members to remain united and focused as the party continues its mission to strengthen its leadership and democratic processes.
