2026 WCQ: He beat Nigeria’s Super Eagles – Zimbabwe manager hails Rohr

Head coach of the Zimbabwe national team, Michael Nees has showered praises on Benin Republic manager, Gernot Rohr following their 2-2 draw in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

Nees credited Rohr while acknowledging the strength of his team, adding that he led Benin Republic to beat Nigeria in the past.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Nees said Rohr is an experienced coach.

โ€œThe coach [Gernot Rohr] is an experienced coach, working with them [Benin] over two years and itโ€™s not by chance they beat Nigeria.โ€

Recall that Benin defeated the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 in the World Cup qualifier in June.

The victory against the Super Eagles in Abidjan boosted their chances of qualification while putting Nigeria in a difficult position.

Benin moved to the top of Group C with eight points after their draw with Zimbabwe.

Behind Benin are Rwanda, while South Africa tied in second place with a game in hand.
