Putin prayed for Trump after assassination attempt – Witkoff

United States Special Envoy Steve Witkoff has revealed details of his conversation with President Vladimir Putin regarding the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.

The American leader, while campaigning as the Republican candidate, was targeted in a shooting last summer in Butler, Pennsylvania.

In an interview with Tucker Carlson on his podcast, Witkoff disclosed that the Russian President recounted his reaction upon hearing the news of the attack.

During their second meeting, Witkoff said of Putin: “When the president was shot, he went to his local church, met with his priest, and prayed for the president.”

The special envoy to the Middle East said Putin’s gesture was not motivated by the possibility of Trump winning the November 2024 election, “but because he had a friendship with him.”

Witkoff also hinted that someone within the Trump administration had warned him to be cautious of Putin “because he’s an ex-KGB guy.”

“I don’t regard Putin as a bad guy,” Witkoff added, saying his discussions with the Russian leader “got personal.”

He also recalled that Putin had “commissioned a beautiful portrait of President Trump from the leading Russian artist,” which he personally delivered to the president.
