NPFL: Heartland’s win will boost Abia Warriors top three hopes – Megwo

Abia Warriors forward, Sunday Megwo has said that the Oriental derby win over Heartland has re-energized their push for a continental spot.

The Umuahia-based club defeated Heartland 1-0 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri on Sunday.

Ojonugwa Adejoh grabbed the only goal of game nine minutes from time.

Megwo believed that the team is mentally ready to achieve their target.

“I’m very happy with the way we performed throughout the game, it showed how mentally strong we are as a team,” Megwo stated after the game.

“However, it is a vital three points for us, because it is not easy to pick a point away from home, and getting the maximum points in a place like this shows how strong we are even playing with ten men.

“So, it is a massive three points for us which kept our continental hopes alive, but there is still eight games left.

“We know that if we keep on winning and getting a positive results, we will have a clear chance of securing a spot in the continent next season.”

Abia Warriors occupy third position on the table with 47 points.
