The Imo State Police Command has announced it has reinforced the ban on the use of tinted vehicles, covered number plates and unauthorised sirens within the state capital and its surrounding areas.
It also informed the public that the movement of motorcycles within the Owerri metropolis is prohibited.
Disclosing the new development to journalists, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, stated that the ban had become more necessary following recent observations.
Okoye indicated that the unauthorised use of vehicles with tinted windscreens, particularly shuttle buses, as well as vehicles with covered number plates, and the indiscriminate use of sirens, are on the increase, maintaining that these acts are a clear violation of existing regulations.
He asserted that the command would like to remind the public that the ban on the use of such vehicles remains in full force, to help the police mitigate the rate of criminal activities in the state.
“In addition, the ban on the use of motorcycles within the Owerri metropolis is still in effect. The Command urges all motorcycle riders to comply with this directive to maintain safety and order within the city,” he stated.
The police command’s spokesperson warned that violators of these regulations will have their vehicles impounded, and strict enforcement actions will be taken.
He further informed that area commanders, divisional police officers, and traffic officers have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the new directives.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, urges all vehicle owners, operators, and motorcycle riders to adhere to these regulations to ensure the safety and security of all residents,” Okoye stated.
