Maresca cancels day off after Chelsea first-team lose 3-0 to U21s

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca cancelled the team’s scheduled day off after they were thrashed 3-0 by the club’s under-21s in training.

According to The Athletic, Thursday, 27 March, was meant to be a free day.

However, the Italian scrapped it after his first team—made up of non-internationals and top academy players—were outclassed by their younger, more inexperienced counterparts in midweek.

Although it was not a full 90-minute match, the manner of the defeat annoyed Maresca.

Chelsea were in the Premier League title race as recently as December, but a poor run of form has left them battling for Champions League qualification.

This has also piled pressure on Maresca at Stamford Bridge.
