Eid-el-Fitr: No substitute for good governance – IPAC to govts

The Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC has urged governments at all levels to provide fruits of democracy to citizens to assuage their sufferings in accordance with Section 14(2)b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended)

The Eid-el-Fitr celebration marks the end of the month-long Ramadan fast and PAC felicitated Moslems across the country for the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

The Council enjoined them to imbibe the virtues of piety, love, tolerance, generosity and unity in the quest for a better society.

“[We] urge governments at all levels to provide fruits of democracy to citizens to assuage their sufferings in accordance with Section 14(2)b of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended,” Yusuf Mamman Dantalle,
National Chairman, IPAC, said in a statement on Sunday.

The Constitution “Provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

“Citizens desire and deserve a fair deal from their government. There is no substitute for good governance that will foster sustainable democracy and development.

“It is time for patriotism, all hands should be on deck in our collective resolve, commitment and determination to build a greater nation future generations will be proud of.”

Meanwhile, the Commission strongly condemned the gruesome killing of 16 hunters in Uromi, Edo State who were allegedly traveling from Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital to Kano to celebrate Sallah with their families.

“It is unjust and wicked,” the Council added.

It urged security agents “to fish out the perpetrators of this heinous crime to face justice. Every life matters and should be protected as we assiduously work for a decent democratic nation.”
