Another petrol tanker somersaults in Oyo

Another petrol tanker has overturned in Oyo State, Media Talk Africa reports.

The tanker carrying about 40,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, overturned at the Galilee area in Orile Igbon along the Ogbomoso-Ilorin Express Road in the early hours of Monday.

The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the development in a statement made available to Media Talk Africa.

“Today, Monday 31st March 2025, at exactly 6:36 am, the Ogbomoso Fire Station was called by DTO, Orile Igbon, through GSM.

“On arrival, we met a DAF trailer tanker, Reg No SUL 698 XP Niger, loaded with 40,000 litres of PMS, which had swerved off the road and overturned into a nearby ditch, its contents gushing out.

“Instantly, we blanketed the area with foam compound to neutralise the flammability of the spilled contents and prevent ignition from naked flames. We remain on standby.

“The Nigeria Police, Orile Igbon Division, are also on the ground to provide adequate security cover,” he said.

The incident comes just a few days after another tanker carrying PMS tumbled in the state.

Media Talk Africa had earlier reported that a petrol tanker carrying 45,000 litres of PMS overturned in Oyo yesterday.

It was also reported that a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of petrol fell into a ditch in the state on 18th March this year.
