Trump explains why US tariffs will not be fully reciprocal

United States President Donald Trump has insisted that the US tariffs will not be fully reciprocal, as it would have been too difficult for many countries.

Trump made this statement at the White House Rose Garden while unveiling his long-promised, sweeping set of tariffs on imports as part of his “America First” agenda.

He also mentioned that other nations have treated the US “badly”, imposing disproportionate tariffs on US imports, which he likened to “cheating”.

According to him, the US will charge other countries “approximately half” of what they are charging the United States in return.

“So, the tariffs will not be fully reciprocal,” Trump said.

“I could have done that, yes, but it would have been tough for many countries. We didn’t want to do that,” he added.
