Kano censorship board shuts down zoo playground over alleged indecent dance during Sallah

The Kano State Film and Censorship Board has shut down a playground at the Kano Zoo after it was accused of hosting a dance performance considered indecent and culturally offensive.

The closure followed an operation carried out by a monitoring committee established by the boardโ€™s chairman, Abba El-Mustapha, and led by the Director of Culture, Abubakar Zakari Garun Babba.

The committee was tasked with overseeing entertainment centers during the recent Sallah celebrations.

According to the board, the incident involved a man and a woman who were found dancing in a manner deemed a clear violation of public decency and contrary to traditional Hausa values.

A statement from the board noted, the Hisbah Board was the first to alert the Film Censorship Board after its undercover officers stationed within the Zoo reported the incident.

These plainclothes officers were deployed to maintain order and curb acts considered immoral during the festive period.

Upon verification of the report, the board seized the equipment used at the playground. The woman involved in the dance has been taken into custody by Hisbah officers, while the man is reportedly on the run.

Chairman of the Kano Film and Censorship Board, Abba El-Mustapha, expressed his gratitude to the people of Kano State for their support in upholding moral standards.

He also extended thanks to the officers of Hisbah, the police, and the Department of State Services (DSS) for their continued efforts in maintaining order and decency across the state.
