NFPL: Abia Warriors still in race for continental spot – Amapakabo

Abia Warriors head coach, Imama Amapakabo insists his side can still challenge for a top three finish in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, despite the defeat to oriental rivals, Enyimba.

The Umuahia club lost 2-1 to the nine-time champions in Aba on Sunday.

Amapakabo’s side took an early lead through Anthony Ijoma.

Enyimba however fought back through goals from Kalu Nweke and Joseph Atule.

Abia Warriors remain in third position despite the defeat, but face pressure from the chasing pack.

Amapakabo is however optimistic their continental ambition is still in intact.

“We’re still in the race. We’ll chase it and run as fast as we possibly can. So, let’s see how it goes. Kudos to the boys — they gave it their all,” he said after the game.

” I think in terms of goal creation, we had the better chances, but unfortunately, we lost to two strikes from outside the box.

“We’ll go back, review the game, and then prepare for Rivers United, which is our next match.”
