Former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi has said the Blues can’t afford to miss out on signing Victor Osimhen.
The West London club attempted to bring the Nigeria international to Stamford Bridge last summer but were unable to meet his wage demands.
Osimhen has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Turkish Süper Lig champions Galatasaray, where he has scored 27 goals and registered five assists in 32 appearances across all competitions.
Chelsea are still desperate to sign a new target man to support Senegal international Nicolas Jackson.
Enzo Maresca’s side are reportedly not considering the former Lille striker as an option for the summer.
Mikel claimed it would be a shame if Chelsea failed to sign his compatriot.
“Listen, it will be really sad if we don’t get a player who supported us as a kid and wants to play for this football club,” he said on the Obione podcast.
“His idol is Drogba. He will want to break records, win us trophies, get us back to the top, come for Drogba’s records. I’m telling you that would be his mission.
“If the club chose not to pursue it, then, well, fair enough, good luck to them. But the good thing about it is we know where we left it; we can literally pick the phone up and get him straight in the door. Get him in!”
