MRS filling station reduces fuel price

MRS filling station, a partner of Dangote Refinery, has reduced its premium motor spirit price by N10, Media Talk Africa reports.

Checks by Media Talk Africa on Saturday showed that the petrol price at MRS filling stations on Kubwa Expressway and Lugbe Airport Road dropped to N940 per litre from N950.

“I bought it at N940 per litre at MRS filling station Kubwa Express. Although I expected a cheaper price following the drop in crude oil prices and the renewal of the naira-for-crude sale deal by the federal government,” a motorist, Nuhu Abdullahi, told Media Talk Africa.

The development comes as the $20 billion Dangote Refinery reduced its ex-depot fuel price by N15 to N865 per litre from N880.

Dangote’s petrol price drop follows the Nigerian government’s commitment to continue the implementation of the naira-for-crude sale deal with the 650,000 barrels-per-day refinery indefinitely through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL.

Aside from MRS filling stations, NIPCO also sells its fuel at N940 per litre in Abuja.

NNPCL retail outlets still sell their petrol at N950 as of Saturday afternoon.

Other Nigerians purchase petrol from various retail filling stations at prices ranging between N950 and N975 per litre.

The National President of the Petroleum Product Retailers Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria, Billy Gillis-Harry, recently stated that with the reactivation of the naira-for-crude sale deal, Nigerians will begin to enjoy the benefits of lower global energy prices.

Last week, fuel prices rose nationwide following the stalemate in the naira-for-crude deal and Dangote Refinery’s suspension of petroleum product sales in naira.
