The Kebbi State Government has announced plans to establish four new Sexual Assault Referral Centres, SARCs, to enhance the accessibility of services for survivors of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) across the state.
The Secretary of the Technical Working Group, TWG, on GBV, Nasiru Idris, made the announcement in a statement issued on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.
The new centres, which will be located in Argungu, Yauri, Zuru, and an additional site in Birnin Kebbi, are set to improve the stateโs current response to GBV.
Idris explained that the centres are part of the ongoing efforts spearheaded by implementing partners in collaboration with the Kebbi State Government.
He added that these centres are designed to provide survivors with much-needed support and resources to address the impact of GBV.
This development follows a strategic meeting chaired by Zainab-Nasare Idris, the wife of the Kebbi State Governor, and the chairperson of the TWG on GBV.
The session presented a comprehensive report on the achievements of the 2024 โ16 Days of Activism Against GBV,โ highlighting key successes, lessons learned, and areas for future improvement as the state prepares for the 2025 campaign.
