PDP suffers setback in Abia as members defect to Labour Party

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, on Monday, suffered a significant setback as hundreds of its members dumped the party for the Labour Party, LP.

Sunday Anya Ojo, a grassroots politician from Isiama Ward in Elu Ohafia and a former House of Assembly aspirant led the defection.

They were received into the LP by the Deputy Governor of the state, Ikechukwu Emetu.

The defection event, which drew a large crowd of supporters, was held at the residence of the state’s Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, in Amaekpu Ohafia, Ohafia Local Government Area.

Addressing journalists on his decision to dump the main opposition party for LP, Ojo cited the declining relevance and influence of the PDP in Abia State as a key reason for his departure.

He expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s growing momentum and promised to contribute to its success in the state.

“I decided to dump PDP for the Labour Party and to also inform them that PDP in Abia State is dead and gone. PDP is in a sorry state right now—in fact, PDP is in the mortuary. I’m now in LP with my entire political structure,” he said.
