Rivers crisis: We stand with Fubara – PDP govs declare

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Governors Forum on Monday said it is standing with the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Sim Fubara.

The Forum led by Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this after its meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State Capital.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara for six months after imposing a state of emergency in Rivers State.

Tinubu imposed the state of emergency to tackle the political crisis in the state.

The President also named retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas as Rivers Sole Administrator.

In a communiqué issued after its meeting in Ibadan on Monday, the PDP governors said: “We restate our commitment to stand with him (Fubara) until the end amid the challenges posed by the declaration of a state of emergency in his state.”

Addressing the worsening security situation in the country, particularly in Borno, Katsina and Edo states, the PDP governors expressed alarm, stating, “The Forum finds alarming the worsening security situation in the country.”

The PDP governors called for a “review and reorientation of priorities and strategies”, emphasising the need for a bottom-up approach to tackle security breaches effectively.
