US: Elon Musk-led DOGE terminates 57 wasteful contracts worth $1.6bn

US billionaire, Elon Musk, who leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has announced the termination of a further 57 wasteful contracts worth $1.6 billion.

DOGE disclosed this in a statement released on its X account on Tuesday night.

According to DOGE, among the cancelled contracts is a $120,000 contract for an Indonesia environmental policy and law enforcement specialist.

The US agency noted that the cancellations have resulted in savings of $1.5 billion for the country.

“Today, agencies terminated 57 wasteful contracts with a ceiling value of $1.6B and savings of $1.5B, including a $120K USDA contract for an ‘Indonesia environmental policy and law enforcement specialist,’” DOGE wrote.

Previously, DOGE had announced the termination of 63 wasteful contracts worth $3.3 billion.
