Nigerian presidents always placate North – Seyi Law

Popular comedian Oluwaseyitan Aletile, professionally known as Seyi Law, has claimed that most of Nigeria’s previous presidents have always worked to placate the northern part of the country.

The comedian made the claim during his recent interview with Teju Babyface on the Deep Dive podcast.

Speaking about Nigeria’s style of politics, Seyi Law accused the nation’s past leaders of playing politics to appease one part of the country, believing the rest are liberal.

He said: “I supported Jonathan in 2014, but that doesn’t mean that everything that Jonathan did was right. There was a lot of corruption under Jonathan, but then he did something that I like, which is trying to fight corruption with technology and not just with mouth.

“But then, when Jonathan was supposed to show that he was the president, he played politics to placate a side of the country because we think the other side of the country is liberal, which sometimes gets me annoyed in Nigerian politics.

“A lot of our previous presidents have always worked to placate the North. And that was why in 2014, when Jonathan was campaigning after people had told him to do certain things and he didn’t do them, and started bringing out money for the campaign, people said this is our own compensation and they didn’t do the work for him.”
