8 governors still in opposition as Oborevwori becomes first to join APC

The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has become the first opposition governor to join the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He had polled 360,234 votes to defeat APC’s Candidate Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who scored 240229 during the March 2023 governorship elections in the state.

Oborevwori was joined in the defection by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, along with other members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Wednesday.

“All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC.

“We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat,” Senator James Manager said.

This leaves only eight governors that are not part of the ruling part.

They are Peter Mbah (Enugu), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Siminilayi Fubara (Rivers), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Alex Otto (Abia), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba) and Abba Yusuf (Kano).
