Naira continues to appreciate against dollar at official, black markets

Nigeria’s currency, the Naira continued to appreciate against the dollar at the official and parallel foreign exchange markets on Thursday.

Central Bank of Nigeria exchange rate data showed that the naira strengthened for the second consecutive day on Thursday to N1,601.82 per dollar from N1,602.30 traded on Wednesday.

At the official market, this means that the naira again gained 0.48 marginally against the dollar on Thursday, higher than the N0.33 gain on Wednesday.

Similarly, at the black market, the naira strengthened by N5 to N1,610 per dollar on Thursday from N1,615 exchanged the previous day.

CBN Governor, Olayemi Cardoso said the apex bank policies in recent times aimed at easing bottlenecks have helped boost FX inflow into Nigeria.

He made this known at a meeting of the Nigerian government delegation led by the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, and international investors on the sidelines of the ongoing Spring Meetings of the IMF and World Bank in Washington, D.C.
