2027: Kebbi gov, Idris clears air on alleged plans to team up with Atiku

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has firmly denied rumours linking him and four other governors to plans of defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Media Talk Africa had reported that there is currently growing confusion within the ruling APC in Kebbi State following widespread rumours that Governor Idris may be planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The speculation was fueled by a viral report which named Idris among five serving APC governors who are said to be considering joining forces with the 2023 PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in a bid to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

However in a statement issued on Sunday, the governor described the speculation as “ridiculously malicious” and the work of “uninteresting political comedians.”

The statement, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ahmed Idris, stressed the governor’s unwavering loyalty to the APC.

Reacting to social media reports suggesting his involvement in a coalition allegedly led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Idris stated, “I am made in APC, by APC, and for APC. I am not a political prostitute. I will be the last person to leave my formidable and reliable party for any coalition, no matter who the architects are.”

Popularly known as Kauran Gwandu, Governor Idris reaffirmed his commitment to the people of Kebbi State and his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“If they tell you again that Kaura is likely to leave his APC, tell them I will be the last man standing,” he declared.

The statement further dismissed any notion of defection from the party, describing such rumours as a “dance of mad fellows in the marketplace.”

Governor Idris assured that Kebbi State remains a stronghold of the APC.
