Dalung reveals reason behind wave of defections to APC

An erstwhile Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has stated that the need for protection from alleged corruption cases is the principal reason behind the recent wave of defections into the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

Dalung made this revelation on Tuesday during an interview on The Morning Brief, a programme on Channels Television, just hours after the latest round of defections.

Media Talk Africa reports that Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, have officially joined APC.

While Oborevwori claimed the defection was in the interest of the oil-rich state, Dalung disagreed with the governor’s justification.

“The wave of defections or the gale of defections of the political elites who are repositioning themselves either for survival, protection, or evasion of prosecution cannot be taken seriously by students of Nigerian politics,” Dalung said.

According to the former Sports Minister, it is the electorate who should determine whether an elected officeholder is permitted to defect.
