Naira records highest depreciation against dollar at official market

Naira depreciates against dollar across official, black markets after Easter holidays

The Naira depreciated against the dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday to end the week on a negative note.

The Central Bank of Nigeria’s exchange rate data showed that the Naira weakened to N1,602.18 per dollar on Friday from N1,596.68 recorded on Thursday. 

This means that on a day-to-day basis, the Naira fell by N5.492 against the dollar, representing the highest depreciation since April 22, 2025.

Meanwhile, at the black market, the Naira appreciated by N3 to N1,605 per dollar on Friday from N1,608 the previous day.

Media Talk Africa reports that despite CBN’s efforts, the Naira had continued to fluctuate against the dollar in both FX markets.
