A major crackdown on fraud has led to the arrest of three individuals linked to the Q-net scam in Nigeria. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended Olaniyan Joshua, Oyetunde Julius Akano, and Victor Oluwale on May 1, 2025, in Abuja. The trio, operating under the guise of Mighty Infinity Millionaire Limited, falsely posed as representatives of Q-net, a global e-commerce and direct selling company.
However, Q-net has categorically denied any affiliation with the suspects and their activities. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were also involved in running a fake university, offering bogus Bachelor of Science degrees in various fields, including Medicine, Nursing, and Cybersecurity. The fake institution, which claimed to be affiliated with Quest International University in Malaysia, conducted its operations in makeshift settings, including pavilions and under trees. Students were duped into paying registration fees ranging from N1.2 million to N1.3 million, generating hundreds of millions of naira in illicit proceeds for the scammers.
This recent arrests are part of a broader effort by the EFCC to tackle the Q-net scam. Just a month prior, on March 24, 2025, the commission raided Q-net University in Abuja, arresting 133 suspects in the process. The EFCC’s actions demonstrate a commitment to combating fraud and protecting vulnerable individuals from falling prey to such schemes. As the investigation continues, the commission is likely to uncover more details about the scope and complexity of the Q-net scam, bringing those responsible to justice and providing relief to the victims. The international community will be watching closely, as this case highlights the importance of vigilance and cooperation in the fight against global financial crimes.
