Nnamdi Kanu Wanted Parts of Kogi and Benue to Join Biafra

Nnamdi Kanu moves to stop further violation of his rights, demands trial within reasonable time

Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has been accused of wanting parts of Kogi and Benue States to join the Biafra secession. This revelation came to light during a court hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where a second prosecution witness, identified as BBB, testified against Kanu. The witness, an operative of the Department of State Services, DSS, claimed that Kanu made this statement during a recorded interaction.

The DSS operative, who testified behind a screen, was led in evidence by prosecuting lawyer Adegboyega Awomolo. Awomolo presented a compact disc containing the recording of the interaction, which he intended to use as evidence. However, Kanu’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, objected to the prosecution’s application to tender the items, citing that the defense had not been served with the necessary documents and materials.

Agabi argued that it is the defendant’s right to receive all relevant documents and materials that the prosecution plans to use in the case. In response, Awomolo stated that he was willing to provide the defendant with all necessary documents and materials. Justice James Omotosho, presiding over the case, ruled in favor of the defense, ordering the prosecution to serve all relevant documents and materials to the defendant as per Section 36 of the Constitution.

The court proceedings have been adjourned until May 7, allowing the prosecution time to serve the defense with the necessary documents and for the second prosecution witness to continue his testimony. This development highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the Biafra secession movement and the legal proceedings against its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the prosecution’s evidence will be received and the implications it may have for Kanu and the IPOB movement. The international community will be watching closely as this significant case continues to play out in the Nigerian courts.
