LP crisis: Abure is an impostor – Nenadi Usman

Abure: It's victory for rule of law - LP's Caretaker Committee Chair, Usman

Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party, LP, Nenadi Usman has described the former National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, as an ‘impostor’.

Usman made this statement at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

The LP National Caretaker Committee, under Usman’s leadership has consequently given Abure 48 hours to stop “parading” himself as a leader of the party.

She advised Abure to instead of denigrating the Labour Party and its leaders, use his time to address the various allegations of corruption and forgery against him.

The NCC warned that Abure risks disciplinary actions if he continues to work against the interest of the party.

It set up a disciplinary committee to probe allegations of corruption and abuse of office levelled against Abure during his tenure as national chairman of the party and recommend appropriate punishment within 21 days.

The committee is said to be chaired by Senator Ireti Kingibe.

The decision of the Usman-led NCC came just days after the Abure-led National Working Committee, NWC, of the LP also set up its own disciplinary committee to investigate alleged anti-party activities by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, and the 2023 presidential candidate of the party, Mr Peter Obi.

The development indicates that the factional crisis in the LP is far from over, with each faction claiming that the April 4 judgment of the Supreme Court gave it control of the party.

While the Abure-led NWC says the apex court validated its leadership, the NCC insists that his tenure has long expired as stated “expressly” by the court.
