APC Chieftain Advises Promoters of Shadow Government to Shelve Idea
A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. George Agbakahi, has urged those promoting the concept of a shadow government in Nigeria to abandon the idea. Dr. Agbakahi, who is a South East leader of the Tinubu Support Organisation and a member of the 2023 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Media and Publicity Directorate, made this known during a recent current affairs program on Television Continental (TVC) channel.
According to Dr. Agbakahi, the concept of a shadow government is alien to Nigeria’s presidential system of government, which has been in place since 1979. He described the idea as an "aberration" and stated that it is not a feature of presidential politics.
Defections to APC a Welcome Development
Dr. Agbakahi also welcomed the recent defections of members from other political parties to the APC, stating that this demonstrates the faith and trust that the defectors have in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his renewed hope agenda. He believes that these defections are a strong affirmation of the President’s performance in office.
President Tinubu’s Achievements
Dr. Agbakahi praised President Tinubu’s achievements, particularly in the areas of economy and national security. He noted that the President has taken bold and ambitious decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of foreign exchange rates. These policies, he said, have brought positive changes to the country.
The APC chieftain also highlighted the administration’s initiatives in areas such as student loans, employment opportunities, and foreign direct investment. He stated that the economy has started showing signs of recovery and growth, with the FAAC allocation to states increasing exponentially to 300 percent.
Insecurity and Agriculture
Dr. Agbakahi acknowledged that insecurity remains a major challenge facing the administration but noted that the federal government has invested heavily in the nation’s armed forces to tackle the problem. He cited reports of the Nigerian military neutralizing over 12,000 planned terrorist attacks and rescuing nearly 9,800 people captured by terrorists.
In the area of agriculture, Dr. Agbakahi said that the President has done a lot to provide fertilizers, mechanized farming, and dry farming, resulting in a decrease in food prices.
APC’s Acceptance in the South East
Dr. Agbakahi dismissed insinuations that the APC government is not acceptable to the South East, stating that the party has made significant inroads in the region. He cited the examples of the governors of Ebonyi and Imo states, who are both members of the APC, and the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, who is also from the South East.
The APC chieftain expressed confidence that President Tinubu will make tremendous inroads in the South East in the upcoming election, given the party’s growing popularity in the region.
Overall, Dr. Agbakahi’s comments suggest that the APC is confident in President Tinubu’s performance and is poised to make significant gains in the upcoming election.
