In a significant development for Nigeria’s political landscape, Dr. Babandi Ibrahim has been elected as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State. This outcome was announced at the State Congress held in Dutse, where Ibrahim, along with 39 other officials, secured their positions within the party. Notably, Ibrahim’s victory was marked by a substantial margin, garnering 874 votes out of the total cast.

The election process, overseen by the congress committee Chairman, Isa Ahmed, saw a high level of participation with 875 out of 888 screened delegates casting their votes. Alongside Ibrahim’s election as Chairman, other key positions were filled, including Mr. Umar Danjani as Vice Chairman, Mr. Mohammed Bahutu as Secretary, Isyaku Maruta as Legal Adviser, Umar Kiyari as Publicity Secretary, Kabiru Nura as Organising Secretary, Hajiya Murja Garki as Women Leader, and Ali Badala as the new Auditor.

In his address following the election, Mr. Ibrahim expressed gratitude to the party leaders, delegates, and members for their support. He emphasized the need for unity among party members, stressing that this cohesion is crucial for the party’s progress. Ibrahim pledged to implement an open-door policy, aiming to re-strategize the party’s approach in preparation for the 2027 elections. Furthermore, he announced plans to establish a reconciliation committee, tasked with the responsibility of bringing back disillusioned members and attracting new ones to the party fold.

Former Governor of the state, Sule Lamido, also shared his sentiments, urging the newly elected executives to work diligently towards the party’s success. Lamido’s message highlighted the importance of unity and wise leadership in navigating the current challenges faced by the residents of Jigawa State and Nigeria at large. His words encapsulate the broader aspirations of the party, focusing on salvaging the populace from the grip of hardship through effective political will and strategy.
