In a significant move to support vulnerable households, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara inaugurated a cash transfer programme aimed at benefiting 448,151 individuals across the state. The ceremony, held in Tsafe town, marked the beginning of an initiative designed to bring relief and improve economic standards for those in need.

Speaking at the event, Governor Lawal emphasized that this programme is part of a broader effort to uplift the economic well-being of vulnerable households. He commended the Federal Government and the National Cash Transfer Office for their collaboration, which has been instrumental in ensuring the programme’s success. Out of the targeted beneficiaries, 279,534 have been successfully enrolled, with the remaining to be included soon. Each beneficiary is set to receive N75,000.

Governor Lawal encouraged the beneficiaries to use the assistance wisely by investing in businesses that can contribute to both their family’s future and the local and national economy. He sternly advised against giving any form of bribe for processing, stressing that the programme is designed to be corruption-free. The governor also warned programme officials against corruption, assuring that the government is committed to eliminating corrupt practices.

The Commissioner for Humanitarian and Relief Matters, Salisu Musa, outlined the programme’s goals, stating that it aims to create a pathway towards economic stability and improved well-being for vulnerable households. He announced that 279,534 beneficiaries have been paid, with 99,321 meeting the minimum Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. Payments were made using either National Identification Numbers (NIN) or Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), with 80,213 awaiting KYC clearance before debit card issuance.

Commissioner Musa urged all stakeholders, including community facilitators, local government officials, and security agencies, to ensure the programme’s successful completion without any obstacles. This call for diligence underscores the importance of transparency and efficiency in reaching all intended beneficiaries.

The Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Abdulmalik Gajam, highlighted that the names of beneficiaries were sourced from the State Social Register, further emphasizing the systematic approach to identifying and supporting those in need.

This cash transfer programme represents a significant step towards addressing poverty and promoting economic growth in Zamfara. By providing financial assistance directly to vulnerable households, the government aims to empower families and contribute to the overall development of the state. The emphasis on corruption-free implementation and the involvement of various stakeholders reflect a commitment to ensuring that the programme achieves its intended goals, benefiting both the individuals and the community at large.
