The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has debunked a report which claimed that the party’s national secretary was not the authorized signatory for the Anambra governorship candidate’s nomination form.
PDP denied the report in a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba
The statement said the report, which claimed that the nomination of the PDP candidate for the November 8, 2025 Anambra State Governorship Election was forwarded by a person other than the duly authorized signatory, is not only false but appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and sow confusion within the party.
The NWC stated that the form was validly signed and submitted by Amb. Iliya Damagum (Acting National Chairman) and Arch. Setonji Koshoedo (Acting National Secretary).
“INEC has completed the nomination process based on valid documentation.
“The PDP urges its members and the public to disregard the report and fake documents circulating on social media.
“The document was submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under reference number PDP/DOM/GF.2/VOL.1J/25-065, dated Wednesday, May 7, 2025. A copy of the document is attached for verification.
“Furthermore, the NWC had earlier, in line with the provisions of Section 36 (2) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), officially directed the Deputy National Secretary to act as National Secretary.
“This directive was conveyed to INEC via a letter referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/VOL.IF/25-061, dated May 5, 2025, and duly signed by Amb. Iliya Damagum and Arch. Setonji Koshoedo. This section of the Constitution empowers the Deputy National Secretary “to act as National Secretary whenever so directed.
“It is important to note that INEC has completed the nomination process based on the valid documentation co-signed by the Acting National Chairman and Acting National Secretary, as evidenced by the official time and date stamps on the INEC nomination portal,” parts of the statement read.
The statement said the NWC remains committed to upholding the integrity of PDP’s internal processes and reassures members of its unwavering resolve to ensure due process, transparency, and unity within the party.
