Defections: APC building government of national unity – Senate Leader, Bamide

Leader of the 10th Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, said that the gale of defections hitting opposition political parties is an indication that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will build a government of national unity that has long been yearned for.

Justifying the defection of three Senators from Kebbi from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, Opeyemi said the APC is now running a government of national unity.

Bamidele, currently representing Ekiti Central in the upper chamber, absolved President Bola Tinubu of blame over the defections rocking opposition political parties, noting that Tinubu did not coerce any member of the opposition political parties to defect to the APC, contrary to public criticism.

He made this clarification at the Senate Chamber, National Assembly Complex, Abuja, on Tuesday when all federal lawmakers from Kebbi State formally announced their defection to the APC.

Media Talk Africa earlier on Tuesday reported that the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, alongside the National Executive Council members, witnessed the defection of three Senators from Kebbi in the Senate.

Kebbi Senators Adamu Aliero, Yahaya Abdullahi, and Garba Maidoki, and all members of the House of Representatives had, at the weekend, informed President Tinubu of their decision to join the ruling party at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
