US and European Allies Discuss Deploying Troops to Ukraine as Part of Post Conflict Settlement

Trump envoy reveals NATO troop deployment plans for Ukraine — RT World News

The United States is in discussions with its European NATO allies to deploy military contingents to Ukraine as part of a potential post-conflict settlement. According to Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, troops from France, Germany, the UK, and Poland may be involved in this effort. The plan, referred to as a “resiliency force,” aims to position troops west of the Dnieper River, outside the conflict zone, and establish a peacekeeping force to monitor a ceasefire.

Kellogg explained that this force is an expansion of the original “E3” concept, which now includes the UK and Poland, making it the “E4.” The goal is to have a third party involved in the peacekeeping efforts, allowing for effective monitoring of a potential ceasefire. The US envoy emphasized that the plan is well-thought-out, with a clear strategy in place.

These developments come as preparations are underway for possible direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul. Kellogg and another senior US envoy, Steve Witkoff, are expected to attend the negotiations, which were proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin to take place without preconditions in Türkiye on May 15. However, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has stated that he is only willing to meet with Putin if a 30-day ceasefire is established beforehand, a condition that Moscow has repeatedly rejected.

The international community has been actively engaged in finding a resolution to the conflict, with the foreign ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the UK, along with the EU’s top diplomat, issuing a joint statement pledging “robust security guarantees for Ukraine.” They proposed exploring the creation of a coalition of air, land, and maritime reassurance forces to support the regeneration of Ukraine’s armed forces and create confidence in a potential peace agreement.

Despite these efforts, Russia has firmly rejected the presence of NATO troops in Ukraine, with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warning that it would pose a direct threat to Russia. Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has also cautioned that such a move could trigger a broader conflict, potentially involving nuclear weapons. As the situation continues to unfold, the international community remains cautiously optimistic about the potential for a peaceful resolution, while also acknowledging the significant challenges that lie ahead.
